I live in Evanston and have been fighting with the city to make the beaches more accessible. There is only one beach in Evanston that has an accessible path on the sand for people in wheelchairs to get down and they have yet to make it long enough to reach the water so I can go swimming. Yesterday I found the Kathy Osterman Beach in Chicago and their accessible path was only about a foot away from the water. It was the best beach I've ever seen. The beach office also had a chair with large wheels and floating devices that allowed a boy who was a quad to get in the water. I went swimming. It was a great day. And to top it all off it was free. No beach tokens required!
